Gilbarco Veeder-Root has announced the successful processing of the first US EMV™ “chip” transaction at a fuel dispenser, utilizing Gilbarco’s Passport® Point-of-Sale (POS) and Encore® fuel dispensers on the First Data network (NYSE:FDC).
Gilbarco’s Passport POS solution is the first POS in the US to process forecourt EMV transactions, leveraging FlexPay™ CRINDS from Gilbarco. Gilbarco expects forecourt EMV payments to quickly begin turning on across the country at the large installed base of FlexPay CRINDS as the software is released for payment networks throughout the year, and as fraud migrates to less secure payment points and security-conscious customers migrate to those sites with enhanced security. The Passport POS system has supported EMV in-store transactions since May 2016. With simple software upgrades, Passport sites can be easily configured and enabled for full EMV transactions at the dispenser for all major card types.
“Gilbarco is proud to continue to lead the market on EMV technologies, both inside the store and at the dispenser. Our customers are looking to enable EMV at the dispenser as soon as possible, to provide the security their customers expect of them, and to get the most of the forecourt EMV hardware investments they’ve already made,” said Mark Williams, Vice President of Marketing, Gilbarco Veeder-Root.
Kamlesh Patel, owner of the 49 Fuels site processing the first US forecourt EMV transaction was eager to enable EMV at the forecourt, stating, “Our dispensers were already EMV-ready, so turning on EMV at the dispenser just required a simple Passport software upgrade. We’ve seen our customers rapidly become accustomed to paying with their chip cards inside the store on our Passport system, and they are quickly expecting to be able to use their chip card at the dispenser, as they know that it gives them additional security.”

With over 90% of U.S. gas stations blending gasoline with ethanol, an important thing to consider when maintaining fuel tanks at your station is Phase Separation. Phase Separation occurs when ethanol absorbs water and separates from the gasoline , sinking to the bottom of the tank. Due to its lighter density, it can remain undetected by a traditional water float and may end up being pumped directly into customers’ vehicles, which can lead to damages you will be held liable for. If left unaddressed for too long, the costs and consequences of Phase Separation could lead to serious damage to your reputation and business.
The best way to prevent these issues from arising is constant, diligent tank monitoring which will allow for early detection. Veeder-Root offers the Phase-Two Separation Float, which replaces a traditional gasoline float kit and detects both water and phase separation in your tanks.
Universal has announced that a number of their spill containers will now be available in both stainless and E-coated carbon steel. This new feature will be available for the 70C and 72 Series spill containers and the 71SC below grade containers. In addition, the 70CD container (with drain valve) will be available in stainless steel. Proven to last longer than buckets made of poly material, the steel buckets are also repairable without removing the spill container.

Franklin Fueling’s APT brand has announced the retirement of their TSM-4736 medium and TSD-4736 deep burial tanks sumps. They will be replaced with tan improved updated design featuring a water-resistant, gasketed lid with four integrated lid hold-down toggles, the TSM-W-4736 and TSD-W-4736.
Both polyethylene sumps feature a 47″ diameter base that fits under a 36″ manway.
The TSM-W-4736 Medium Burial has a height range of 31.9″ minimum to 45″ maximum burial depth (currently in stock!) while the TSD-W-4736 Deep Burial has a height range of 31.9″ minimum to 58″ maximum burial depth.
